From celebrated author of Italian pop classics to master of the dark atmospheres of international horror and thriller cinema, Pino Donaggio has forged one of the most remarkable careers in European film music. After rising to fame as a singer-songwriter in the 1960s, his cinematic journey took a decisive turn in 1973 with Don't Look Now by Nicolas Roeg, opening the way to a musical universe that was both unsettling and deeply melodic, and which would leave a lasting mark on genre cinema for decades. From his collaborations with Brian De Palma on films such as Carrie, Dressed to Kill and Blow Out to his work with Dario Argento and scores featured in the CAM Sugar catalogue – including Morte in Vaticano, Tra(sgre)dire and Oltre la porta – Donaggio developed a sonic language capable of blending romantic lyricism, suspense and psychological tension.
