Pino Donaggio

Composer and Singer-Songwriter

Pino Donaggio is one of the most renowned and influential Italian composers in international film music. After achieving success as a singer-songwriter in the 1960s – crowned by Io che non vivo (senza te), a song that became a global classic also thanks to interpretations by Dusty Springfield and Elvis Presley – Donaggio embarked on an extraordinary film scoring career that established him as a cult figure in auteur thriller and horror cinema. His breakthrough came in 1973 with Don't Look Now by Nicolas Roeg, whose score introduced a musical language defined by lyricism, suspense and psychological tension. Throughout his career, Donaggio has composed more than two hundred film scores, collaborating with directors such as Brian De Palma, Dario Argento, Joe Dante, Pupi Avati and Nicolas Winding Refn. His music for films such as Carrie, Blow Out and Dressed to Kill has become a benchmark for contemporary genre cinema. Over the years, he has received numerous international accolades for his contribution to film music, cementing his status as a master of Italian film scoring.
