Composer, pianist and Film director
Christophe Chassol is a French composer, pianist, and filmmaker renowned for his unique approach to the relationship between sound and image. Trained at the Paris Conservatory, he began his career composing for film, television, and advertising before developing his acclaimed “Ultrascores”: hybrid works that blend documentary footage, field recordings, speech, harmony, and live performance into immersive audiovisual experiences.
Characterized by techniques of editing, layering, and sampling, Chassol’s musical language has also been influenced by the visual work of Jean-Michel Basquiat, to whom he dedicated the project Chassol Plays Basquiat (2024). Drawing on imagery and cultural landscapes inspired by New Orleans, India, Martinique, and Japan, his music moves freely between jazz, minimalism, film music, and contemporary electronic sounds.
Alongside his solo career, Chassol has collaborated with artists including Frank Ocean, Phoenix, and Sébastien Tellier.
